During Operation Cast Lead, in January 2009, Florida embraced Israel in a fashion unsurpassed anywhere in the USA or elsewhere. Statements of support and recognition of Israel’s right to self defense were issued by elected officials in various formats - press releases, public statements and on the floor of the House of Representatives in Washington, DC. Statements of support were also made by Christian and Hispanic leaders including many Cuban organizations. Puerto Rico Governor, Luis Fortuno, also issued a statement of support.
